Strattera 100 mg

Strattera is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor approved for ADHD treatment. Its generic name is atomoxetine for the improvement of ADHD symptoms. Strattera 10 mg has active ingredients of atomoxetine hydrochloride. It is often used in Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and is the most common behavioral disorder starting in childhood and sometimes carrying into adulthood.

ADHD is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity of patient. Different medications are available for the treatments of ADHD like Adderall (amphetamine salt combo), Ritalin (methylphenidate), Strattera 10 mg,  Dexedrine(Dextroamphetamine), Vyvanse, Concerta, and Methylin as a generic alternative medication.

Dosage:

Daily doses of the drug are normally assigned based on use in adults and old-age patients. The dose recommendations will differ based on the age and body weight of the children and older adults.

Each hard capsule of Strattera contains atomoxetine hydrochloride equivalent to 10 mg, 18 mg, 25 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg, 80 mg, and 100 mg.

All the doses have the same Nonmedicinal ingredients such as pregelatinized starch, dimethicone, gelatin, sodium lauryl sulfate, FD&C Blue No. 2, synthetic yellow iron oxide, and titanium dioxide.

Strattera 10 mg: 

The white hard capsule of 10 mg, opaque white, imprinted with “Lilly 3227” and “10 mg” in black ink contains 10 mg of atomoxetine.

Strattera 18 mg:

Each hard capsule of 18 mg gold (cap)and opaque white (body) capsule marked “LILLY 3238” contains 18 mg in black ink of atomoxetine.

Strattera 25 mg:

Each hard capsule of 25 mg has opaque blue (cap) and opaque white (body) capsules imprinted with “Lilly 3228” and “25 mg” in black ink of atomoxetine.

Strattera 40 mg:

Each hard capsule of 40 mg has opaque blue and opaque white capsules marked “LILLY 3229” and contains 40 mg in black ink of atomoxetine.

Strattera 60 mg:

Each hard capsule of 60 mg has an opaque blue (cap) and gold (body), marked “LILLY 3239” containing 60 mg in black ink of atomoxetine.

Strattera  80 mg:

Each hard capsule of 80 mg has opaque brown (cap) and opaque white (body), marked “LILLY 3250” and contains 80 mg in black ink of atomoxetine.

Strattera 100 mg:

Each hard capsule of 100 mg has an opaque brown capsule is marked “LILLY 3251” and  “100 mg” in black ink of atomoxetine.

How Does Strattera Work?

Strattera 100 mg works by increasing the amount of norepinephrine, an important chemical in the brain. It helps to increase attention span and reduce impulsive behavior and hyperactivity of ADHD.

How Is Strattera 100 mg Taken?

The patient should take Strattera 100 mg from one to four weeks to work. After four weeks, the dose can be decreased as the health condition of the doctor. The initial dose is 10 mg and the highest dose of the Strattera is 100 mg. The highest dose of the medication is often given in once a day in the morning if the doctor feels it according to the severity of the patient. But taking this medication late in the day may cause trouble sleeping (insomnia).

Take this medication with or without food as directed by your doctor regularly. Swallow the capsules whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules. If the capsule is accidentally opened or broken, You should not use it further. Because if the powder gets in your eyes, it may damage your eye. So, flush it with plenty of water right away and contact your doctor.  Use this medication regularly at the same time(s) each day to get the most benefit from it.

Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use including prescription or nonprescription drugs, and herbal products. The goal of therapy is to decrease the level of common ADHD symptoms like hyperactivity, distractibility, and impulsivity.

Side Effect Of Strattera 100 mg: 

Atomoxetine the active ingredient contained in Strattera 100 mg may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur in every patient if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Common side effects of Strattera 100 mg include constipation, insomnia, hives, itching, skin rash, irregular heartbeat, decreased appetite, and xerostomia. Other side effects include dysmenorrhea, erectile dysfunction, dizziness, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs, redness of the skin, ejaculatory disorder, urinary hesitancy, and diaphoresis.

Seek medical attention immediately if you experience the above side effects.

Other Drugs Interact With Strattera 100 mg: 

Generally, a drug interaction is a reaction between two or more drugs or between a drug and food, beverage, or supplement.

If your doctor has advised you to use this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist about the prescription or nonprescription of the drug. Because the doctor knows any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for them.

Drug Interactions: 

Severe drugs interactions of Strattera 100 mg include:

• Isocarboxazid
• Linezolid
• Phenelzine
• Bupropion,
• Escitalopram,
• Antacids (aluminum hydroxide, calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide),
• Methadone,
• Neratinib
• Oxycodone
• Codeine
• Hydrocodone
• Tramadol
• Suboxone

Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your doctor, or pharmacist first.

Food Items And Beverages Interaction:

Food items and beverages which should not be taken with this drug are:

• Grapefruit
• Grapefruit juice
• Alcohol
• Cigarette

Mixing alcohol or grapefruit with some drugs may lead to drowsiness. You may feel tired or slow your reactions. So taking all these above beverages with Strattera 100 mg may cause severe drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, and body imbalance. Cigarette smoking with this medication may decrease the effectiveness of the drug.

Before taking these habits of beverage you should inform your doctor.

Warning & Precautions For Strattera 100 mg:

The warning and precautions are intended to identify and describe a set of adverse reactions and safety hazards.

Warnings:

Strattera 100 mg use has been associated with an increased risk of suicidal attempts in short-term studies in children or adolescents with ADHD.

• The doctor monitor patients’ suicidal thinking and behavior, clinical worsening, or unusual behavioral changes. He also suggests to the family members the need for close observation and communication with prescribing healthcare provider.
• In case of an overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
• You should never take Strattera 100 mg with or within 14 days of monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) therapy, to the risk of a potentially fatal reaction.
• Serious reactions of the patient, including high blood pressure and heart problems are reported to the patient.

Precautions: 

It is very important that your doctor check your child’s progress at regular visits. To make sure this medicine is working properly or not. Then he decides whether this medication will continue to take or not. Blood tests may be needed to check for unwanted effects.

Some precautions are as follows:

• Strattera 100 mg may make you more drowsy, dizzy, less alert, or lightheaded than normal. Make sure you know how you react to this medicine before you drive, and use machines. It could be dangerous if you are dizzy or not alert.
• Do not take atomoxetine with or within 14 days of taking a drug with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor activity.
• This medicine may cause serious allergic reactions which can be life-threatening and require immediate medical attention.
• Call your doctor right away if you or your child have chest tightness, cough, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, fast heartbeat, itching, skin rash, large, hive-like swelling on the face, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs, trouble breathing, or unusual tiredness or weakness after you take this medicine.
• Check with your doctor right away if you have pain or tenderness in the upper stomach, pale stools, dark urine, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or yellow eyes or skin. These could be symptoms of a serious liver problem in the patient.
• This medication may cause serious heart or blood vessel problems. This may be more likely in patients who have a family history of heart disease.
• You will also need to measure your blood pressure and heart rate before starting this medicine and while you are using it. If you notice any change in your blood pressure, call your doctor right away.
• Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting may occur when you get up suddenly from a lying or sitting position. These symptoms are more likely to occur when you begin taking this medicine or when the dose is increased. Getting up slowly or lying down for a while may help.
• This medicine may cause slow growth in children. Your child’s doctor will keep track of height and weight.
• If you or your child experience a painful erection of the penis for more than 4 hours, check with your doctor right away.
• Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This includes prescription or nonprescription medicines and herbal or vitamin supplements.
• Use with caution in patients with bipolar disorder, history of hypertension, hepatic impairment, existing anxiety disorder, history of urinary retention, or tics related to Tourette disorder.

Tell your doctor right away if you, your child, or a caregiver notices any unusual changes in behavior, such as an increase in aggression, hostility, agitation, irritability, or suicidal thinking or behavior. Also, tell your doctor if you have hallucinations or any unusual thoughts if they are new or getting worse quickly.

Strattera 100 mg With Pregnancy, & Lactation: 

Taking drugs during Fertility, Pregnancy, & Lactation period increases the side effects for the mother and child. It has chances of birth defects, premature babies, underweight babies, and stillborn births.

Pregnancy:

In general, it is harmful effects during pregnancy, if anyone takes Strattera 100 mg without consulting the doctor. Such as embryonal/fetal development, parturition, or postnatal development is not accordingly.

Breast-feeding:

During lactating period if the mother feeds her baby, she needs to avoid taking Strattera 100 mg. Because it may harm your baby while taking the milk from the breast.
